On July 28th, several interviews were televised on Net 25. The interviews were of the alleged abducted ministers. In the said interviews, the ministers claimed that they were fine and that no abductions took place.
Many members of the INC rejoiced, as they believed this was the end of the abduction allegations. Unfortunately, if we delve a little deeper into what Net 25 is, things get a little fishy.
First of all, if you go to the Net 25 Wikipedia page you'll notice they are owned and operated by the Eagle Broadcasting Corporation, which is itself owned by the Iglesia ni Cristo. The interviews were only conducted by Net 25. This was not an unbiased and completely legitimate broadcast, as it didn't bring any outside news sources in to conduct the interviews. The interviews themselves were conducted by Edwil Zabala, the church's spokesman.
The interviews also appeared to be prerecorded, and there seemed to be confusion about dates during the interview. Had the interviews been live, there would be less speculation about their authenticity.
Why does all of this matter? Well there is a lot of room for doubt considering that they didn't let outside reporters speak to the ministers, nor did they conduct live interviews. It was almost as if there was information still being hidden from the public. It is still very much possible that the ministers were forced to comply under threat.
In fact, the brother of one of the allegedly abducted ministers spoke out against the interviews. He entered a philippine based witnessed protection service. Watch here.
The bottom line is that the investigation should continue until the truth is uncovered.
